The Simple Cross

Framed Faith

Down through the centuries, the cross has remained the dominant symbol of Christianity. This cross, found in the brick wall of Lindisfarne Abbey, speaks to God’s love brought to a small British island by men who would later be persecuted by marauding Vikings. After witnessing the death and tremendous pain caused by them, the people who survived the attacks eventually left the island. Yet they never abandoned their faith, and a new generation of believers arrived to form a new community. Now centuries later, a modern church stands near the cross and three worship services a day are held in it.
